mnemonic joins Europol’s Cyber Intelligence Extension Programme (CIEP)
mnemonic has been invited to join Europol’s Cyber Intelligence Extension Programme (CIEP).

The CIEP initiative, a pilot launched by Europol’s European Cybercrime Centre (EC3), brings together specialists from trusted private-sector organisations and Europol to effectively work together in the fight against cybercrime.
Effective cybercrime collaboration
The CIEP aims to make collaboration more efficient and effective. By enabling real-time intelligence and engagements, exchanging knowledge, expertise and methods, the programme strengthens Europe’s collective ability to identify, investigate and disrupt criminal operations.
Working side-by-side with Europol analysts
Representing mnemonic in the programme, Security Consultant Ferry van der Heijden worked directly with analysts of several operational teams within Europol EC3 headquarters in The Hague. Europol structures much of its cooperation with partners around focused ‘operational sprints’: short, intensive periods where experts from law enforcement and industry work closely together on specific investigations. These sprints enable deep dives into complex cases, allowing participants to cross-reference intelligence from all sides and contribute directly to impactful law enforcement operations.
Long-standing public-private partnerships
mnemonic’s relationship with Europol dates back over ten years. mnemonic and Europol EC3 signed a Memorandum of Understanding in 2014. Since 2016, the company holds a seat on Europol’s Advisory Group on Internet Security, which supports the European Cybercrime Centre in shaping its strategic direction and operational priorities.
Beyond its partnership with Europol, mnemonic also works closely with several national and international authorities. For instance, mnemonic recently participated in the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence (CCDCOE) Crossed Swords exercise, focusing on offensive cyber activities while also encompassing defensive operations and actions in the information space. Earlier this year, mnemonic joined 27 public and private organisations in The Netherlands in signing the Cyclotron collaboration agreement, a joint initiative to strengthen the exchange of information on emerging cyber incidents.
While the Cyclotron initiative focuses on strengthening resilience, the partnership with Europol is directed at identifying and dismantling the root causes of attacks: the criminal infrastructure itself.
“Right from day one, I truly felt welcomed as part of the team”, says Ferry van der Heijden, Security Consultant at mnemonic. “The collaboration is open, direct and highly effective, built on mutual trust and shared purpose. Sitting at the forefront of cybercrime investigations gives us an even greater ability to detect and respond to emerging threats, strengthening protection for our customers and the wider community. We’re looking forward to taking part in future sprints and continuing to contribute to Europol’s important work in disrupting cybercrime.”
Gonçalo Ribeiro, Head of Cyber Intelligence at Europol: “mnemonic has been a valued partner of Europol for many years, contributing valuable expertise and operational insight as a trusted European cybersecurity player. Their long-standing commitment to collaboration and intelligence sharing strengthens our collective ability to identify, investigate and disrupt cyber threats across borders. The CIEP programme builds on this strong foundation, helping us work even more effectively together to protect Europe’s digital ecosystem.”
