mnemonic is pleased to be identified as a representative vendor in the new Gartner Market Guide for Managed Security Services (MSS).
In the Market Guide, representative vendors are split into the three categories Security Pure-Play, Network Services/Telecomm and SI, ITO and Consultancy Firms. mnemonic is one of the 20 global representative vendors in the category Security Pure-Play, and has previously gained Gartner recognition in the areas of Managed Detection and Response (MDR) and Incident Response.
The report describes Managed Security Services as delivered as human-performed, technology-supported services and that they must combine human expertise and analysis, with efficient processes to deliver actionable outcomes that the buyer can consume. mnemonic's been delivering Managed Security Services to the enterprise market since the beginning of the millennium. Our intelligence-driven solution has evolved over this time to work seamlessly together with our security experts, assisting them in meeting the new challenges and threats organisations are facing today.
In the report, which you can find in its entirety here, Gartner predicts that by 2025, 50% of organisations will allow third parties to go beyond pure monitoring for security breaches, providing mitigation using remotely accessible security technologies. This is up from 15% today.
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR BUYERS
Gartner highlights that since no two Managed Security Services providers are identical or delivering the same capabilities, differentiation among providers is hard for buyers to quantify.
Like previous years (in what was known as the Gartner MSS Magic Quadrant), Gartner also includes recommendations for organisations considering to acquire Managed Security Services. In the 2020 report they recommend that Security and Risk Management leaders, should:
- Prepare adequately before engaging MSS providers by having well-defined, risk-based security requirements and use cases.
- Have in mind that MSS is 60% process, 30% people and 10% technology. Engaging an MSS provider requires the right internal staffing levels and additional processes to account for the security operations and life cycle.
- Ensure that constraints on technology choices, such as compliance, regulatory or legal needs, should be well-communicated to providers early.
